Bruno Saby, a former French Rally Champion and Rally Raid Champion, not to mention a previous winner of the epic Paris-Dakar Rally Raid, has joined the growing list of stars who have signed up to compete on the Rallye International du Maroc (Morocco) in October.

Alongside Saby will be Denis Giraudet, a veteran of more than 150 starts in the World Rally Championship, and the pair will share a very special car: the Peugeot 504 V6 coupe belonging to Jean-Pierre Nicolas.

Nicolas, who won the Rallye du Maroc three times in 1968, 1974 and 1976, was keen to drive on the rally himself, but his clashing commitment as motorsport development manager of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge precluded his participation - for this year, at least.

"It's something that Jean-Pierre would have liked to have done himself, but he's not able to," said Saby. "So he offered me his car and I'm very grateful for the opportunity!"

Frenchman Bob Neyret, a two-time winner of the Rallye du Maroc at the wheel of a Citroen DS (in 1969 and 1970), was the man to suggest that Saby and Nicolas took part in this year's event.

"This incredible combination goes to show that passion lives on!" he commented. "Even if it does come in the shape of a rally car!"

Other top stars to be taking part in the event include Michele Mouton and Fabrizia Pons, the only female crew ever to win a round of the World Rally Championship.
