Rally Japan was supposed to make its WRC return last year, but was cancelled because of COVID-19.

Now, with the Olympic Games run and won, Japanese authorities are tightening restrictions in order to try and get the pandemic back under control.

If the rally is again cancelled, it would be a huge blow to championship leaders Toyota, who are hoping to finish a successful season on home ground.

In 2020, the Monza Rally filled the void left in the calendar by Rally Japan so, in theory, this could be an option again for the WRC.
