Multiple Australian Rally Champions , Neal Bates and Coral Taylor, have been named as Australian Ambassadors for the Shannons Adelaide Rally. Bates and Taylor won the Modern Competition of the 2017 event and were impressed with the unique offering attached with the Adelaide Rally, being part of the greater Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
“The rally has a great buzz attached to it, the field is huge and we can see where the organisers are taking this event,” Coral Taylor said. “It is great for our sport, to have brilliant driving roads so close to a capital city and to have entrants at all levels and cars of all types involved."
The Adelaide Rally (Nov 28 – Dec 1) plans to expand to have four days of competition this year, with a course consisting of 30 stages of varying lengths (up to 14km).

Adelaide Motorsport Festival Event Director Tim Possingham explains: “We are aiming for 300 cars participating in all elements of the rally in 2018. We really only need 13% growth to achieve that.
“The thing that we keep hearing is that the event is truly unique, it’s not comparable to a 250km long rally held in the middle of the wilderness. It’s a place where you’re front and centre amongst 12,000 people at the Gouger Street Party, rubbing shoulders with F1 drivers, V8 Supercars drivers, rally champions and the like.
“Then, the next morning, just 12 minutes up the road you’re tackling some of the most technical, tight and challenging roads in Australia, with literally thousands of people along the entire route and at all the lunch stops and peripheral street parties. “This is why we see brands like Aston Martin, Audi, Ferrari, Mercedes and BMW involved. There is nowhere else in the country that you can do this all within 30km of the CBD and be part of the greater Adelaide Motorsport Festival, which attracts over 40,000 people.” The event format is expected to include closed road stages including some of the most iconic stages from the Classic Adelaide Rally of old, but is also expected to visit the new Bend Motorsport Park, where five activities over four different circuits are planned on day two of the four-day event.
