RallySport Magazine understands that preliminary meetings have already been conducted to ensure that the event can fulfil its place in the championship.
A number of well-known Victorians associated with rallying are behind the move, and include Neil Cuthbert, who was until recently the event’s director, however it is unlikely that Cuthbert will take on that role this year.
The Rally of Melbourne has, for the past few years, enjoyed support from NGK and was one of the most popular rounds of the ARC. Despite this, the event, like many others, runs on a very tight budget and Cuthbert recently told RallySport Magazine that he was no longer prepared to shoulder the financial risk.
If sufficient sponsorship and manpower can be obtained, the event could proceed on its scheduled date of November 10 & 11.
