Popular New Zealand Rally Championship driver, Marcus van Klink, and co-driver Dave Neill, are putting together plans to bring their Mazda RX8 across the Tasman for Rally Australia in November. The pair are four times New Zealand Classic Rally Champions, and the winners of the 2012 Otago Classic Rally in a Group B replica Mazda RX7. van Klink has spent the last 12 months driving the raucous-sounding Mazda RX8 in NZRC and club rallies.

The RX8 is a crowd favourite in New Zealand, and as our video from this year’s Otago Rally highlights (below - and turn up the sound!), it’s not hard to see why.
“We’d love to bring the car across to Australia and show it off at Rally Australia,” van Klink told RallySport Magazine.
“We are getting to the stage now where the car is pretty well sorted, and competing in a round of the WRC with it would be an incredible experience.” Marcus van Klink Otago Rally In our view, getting the car to Coffs Harbour for the event should be high on Rally Australia’s priority list - regardless of the obstacles.
The RX8 would be one of the stars of the show, and further promoting cross-Tasman competition would be just one of the many bonuses to come out of van Klink’s entry.
Support for their tilt at Rally Australia has been provided by MRF Motorsport Tyres and Mentor Tyres, with at least three other Kiwis believed to be trying to make the trip to Coffs Harbour as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzpXvwt_0mM
