Sebastien Ogier has had to withdraw from this weekend’s Rally Poland after an accident on the pre-event reconnaissance left him in hospital.
A road car driven by Ogier collided with another vehicle, with the eight-time world champion transferred to hospital by helicopter, along with the female driver of the other vehicle.
None of the occupants suffered life threatening injuries.
Ogier’s co-driver, Vincent Landais, and the female passenger from the other vehicle involved in the incident were taken by ambulances for examination.
Ogier will remain in hospital for observation until Wednesday, while Landais has been discharged.
Their place in the Toyota team for Rally Poland will be taken by Kalle Rovanpera, who will have his maiden outing in Poland.
Rally Poland begins on Friday, with 19 stages and over 300 kilometres of competitive distance over three days.
