Side-by-side quad bikes took second and third places in the FIA African Championship Bandama Rally in the Ivory Coast. Winner was the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X of Gary Chaynes, but for most of the rally the challenger was Stephane Peterhansel’s Yamaha YXZ before he lost nine minutes, two stages from the end. Peterhansel then fell behind the similar vehicle of Jeremie Warnia to finish third. Only three FIA homologated cars were classified, the others being Evo IXs of Piero Connobio and Maxime Abondio, the rest of the 34 starters were entered in the Group S class. Although SxS vehicles have appeared in Australian championship rallying, this is the first time they have been admitted into an FIA rally championship event. Four vehicles of this type were allowed to start, all on a championship points basis. The two others were Can-Am Maverick XSs. View the Bandama Rally results HERE.
