The Pertamina PrimaXP Rally Team of Rifat Sungkar and Scott Beckwith have committed to contesting the Asia Pacific Rally Championship in 2010.  Kicking off with the first round in Malaysia over the weekend of 24 – 25 April, the team will then tackle New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, Indonesia and China.

“We are very excited to be able to commit to the Championship this year” said Rifat.  “In 2009, we were in a rebuilding phase, and split our activities between domestic commitments and the Asia Cup.  With some good experience under the belt, solid results, confidence in each other in the car, and a supportive sponsor, we have the perfect base for a successful year in the full championship.”

The team plans to campaign a number of different cars this year.  Malaysia will see them entered in Rifats well developed and reliable 2007 Subaru WRX, whilst the team has arrangements in place to use a Mitsubishi Evo IX in New Zealand, New Caledonia and China.  “We are not yet committed to a car for Australia or Indonesia” said Rifat “but we are exploring a number of options – and we may yet have something surprising!”

Rifat is no stranger to the APRC, having previously competed for the Motor Image team for two seasons, a drive that recognised his dominance of the Indonesian Championship over a number of years.  “With 7 Championships behind me in Indonesia, it was certainly time for a new challenge – and the APRC definitely provides that” said Rifat.

“With each round of the APRC providing something different in terms of roads, terrain and weather, the season is certainly a full test of the car and team – that’s what makes it so attractive, and why teams keep coming back.”

Scott is newer to the APRC, joining with Rifat in 2009, but is well known in Australian rallying circles after a number of years in the Australian Rally Championship.  “Having moved to Indonesia in 2008, I wasn’t sure where rallying would take me next” said Scott.

“I was really pleased to get the opportunity with Rifat last year, he is a well balanced driver who works well to a plan and doesn’t get phased by what is happening around him.  Importantly, we have found we really enjoy each others company and work well together in the car – two ingredients I consider vital to rally success.  I am certainly looking forward to building on last years experiences to deliver some great results for the team!”

Pertamina is Indonesia’s largest producer and retailer of quality fuels and lubricants, and PrimaXP engine oil is designed to offer maximum protection in extreme conditions.  “A high quality product like PrimaXP is a perfect complement to rallying success” noted Rifat.  “We are delighted with their support this year, along with our ongoing support from Garuda Indonesia, Oakley and Tag Heuer.”
