The entry list for the fifth and final round of the East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship, Scouts Rally SA, has been released featuring a diverse mix of outright two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, Classic, Side-by-Side and State Championship competitors.
Championship leader Eli Evans heads the entry list on what may well be Citroen’s last outing in the series, with team principal Ron Cremen confirming last month that Evans’ Citroen DS3 is being shipped back to the Middle East immediately after the rally.
Â
Evans will need to stay out of trouble if he is to win the title for a third time because he’ll have Molly Taylor hot on his heels if he slips up, the Renault driver still in with a solid shot at overhauling Evans to snatch the title away.
Â
The Championship fight aside it looks set to be a red hot weekend in the National 4WD Series, with Mick Patton looking to claim his maiden title in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, but he will be under intense pressure from Tasmanian flyer Marcus Walkem, Peugeot ‘Maxi’ driver Mark Pedder and local young gun, Guy Tyler.
Â
Steve Mackenzie lines up in his front-wheel drive Ford Fiesta, while Canberran Adrian Coppin says he’s preparing for 2016 by switching from his Citroen DS3 into an ex-Bates Motorsport Toyota Corolla Group N (P).
Â
Tony Sullens will be looking to put the disappointment of retirement at the recent Coates Hire Rally Australia behind him when he takes to the fast and flowing South Australian roads in his Citroen, just ahead of Harry Bates, who also has a change of car for this event, switching from his front-wheel drive Corolla to an all-wheel drive Super 2000 spec Corolla.
Â
Further down the list, Ashlea James is looking increasingly confident with his Volkswagen Polo, New South Welshman Jeff David makes his first appearance of the year in his Classic Porsche 911, while wild man David Thompson debuts his new acquisition, a Toyota Celica GT-Four formerly used as a recce car by Didier Auriol.
Â
A notable addition to this year’s event is the Rallysafe Introductory Rally presented by Scouts Rally SA, designed to promote entry level rallying. It is being billed as a great way for people new to the sport of rallying to experience it first hand.
Â
The event will involve four hours of competition, and is open to competitors with uncaged cars. Timed to the minute, it will be an easy way to get started in the sport of rallying, on the same roads as the East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship.
Scouts Rally SA starts on Friday, October 23 with the ARMOR ALL & STP Power Stage, before the action gets underway on Friday afternoon with three forestry stages ahead of the daunting challenge of the 20.45km Crawford stage run in the dark on Friday night.
Â
The action continues over Saturday and Sunday, with a further nineteen stages, before the finish ceremony takes place at the Gawler Showgrounds on Sunday afternoon.
