The KCF Rallysport Short Course Challenge – Burnett Sprint #2, to be run this Saturday, will be the first rally for South-East Queenslanders, and it is fully subscribed with 38 crews. “I think we’re all really pleased to be back in the forest, and we have a cracking entry list,” Clerk of Course Peter Flynn, from Brisbane Sporting Car Club, said. “Pre-event recce went well on Saturday and really helped with the social distancing.  We are also looking forward to the new facilities and great hospitality provided by the Benarkin State School. “It’s a great opportunity for the rally community to help with fundraising for the small school.” State Championship regulars and eager rally competitors have wasted no time getting their entries into the Benarkin based pace-noted rally.  The entry list includes names like Carrigan, Brinkman, Menzies, Johnsson and Swart, plus many more capable teams, suggesting a tight contest over the 60km of competitive stages. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 restrictions the rally will be without spectators, however, the Queensland Rally Media Team will be broadcasting the event live so that fans can still get their rally fix as virtual spectators. The restrictions have also limited the number of competitors and registered service crews able to enter the designated service park area.

This event isn’t just for the experienced teams.  It will be Round 2 of the 2020 Queensland Novice Rally Series.  Six crews will battle it out, hopefully seven if current series leaders Krystle Power/Brad Hurford (Ford Falcon XR6) get a phone call. Power surprised herself with pace, winning the first round and wasn’t intending to enter Round 2 prior to her first rally.  She quickly popped an entry in, waiting as a reserve with fingers crossed. On the points table behind Power/Hurford are Gary Dutton/Giles Harris (Toyota Celica TA22), currently sitting in second, and Wessel Pieters/Jan Kraaij (Subaru WRX) in third, both cars in attendance. The other four novice teams missed the first round of the “best three out of four” series. Taking place in Benarkin, the KCF Rallysport Short Course Challenge – Burnett Sprint #2 action will take place from 10.30am this Saturday, August 1.
