Brendan Reeves has put in another sensational drive on day two of Repco Rally New Zealand, finishing the day in a remarkable 31st place.
Driving a hired Ford Fiesta, Reeves has again been the dominant driver in the two-wheel drive category on his first ever World Rally Championship event.
Interestingly, Reeves trails fellow Australian, and Subaru World Rally Team star Chris Atkinson, by less than two minutes heading into the final day – although it must be said that Atkinson lost 20 minutes after rolling his car yesterday.
“I drove really hard this afternoon because we have no pre-load on the front diff, so it was tough,” Reeves said at the end of the day. “But we got there in the end.”
His result saw him take out the Kiwi 2 class in the New Zealand Rally Championship (which was conducted over the first two days of the rally).
“I’m happy with the results, but with a 19 minute lead I’ll take it a lot easier tomorrow,” Reeves added.
A further five stages will complete Rally New Zealand tomorrow, including two runs over the spectacular 30 kilometre Whaanga Coast stage. The rally ends with a Super Special Stage at Mystery Creek, just out of Hamilton.
