Leading the championship by just three points going into the Philcomm Jimna Rally, the Smart’s were seeded at car 2 behind Marius Swart in a VW Polo Super 2000.
After a steady start, dropping 14 seconds to the leader on the first stage, Ryan and Rebecca steadily moved themselves back into contention, and when the predicted rain arrived late in the afternoon, their quality shone through as they increased their lead, on one stage catching the top seeded car.
In wet conditions described as diabolical, the Smarts conquered the slippery roads to win the rally by a margin of over two minutes, and wrapped up the title in style. This is their first season in a 4WD car, and their Fullerton Financial Services Evo 6 performed faultlessly.
