A longtime competitor and official, Stean’s involvement in the sport has varied over many years.

Most commonly known for his co-driving exploits, he’s been alongside some of the country’s fastest drivers, including Ross Dunkerton and Clayton Hoy.

As recently as October he was again a winner in the Queensland Rally Championship, winning the Working Dog Rally with the aforementioned Hoy.

Stean also competed alongside Hoy’s father, Wayne, in the 1990s.

New Zealand has been a happy hunting ground for Stean, with the Otago Rally a particular favourite, having competed in the rally seven times.

His co-driving efforts were also vitally important at recent Rally Australia events where he was alongside Shaun Dragona in the ‘0’ car.

Stean will be officially added to the Hall of Fame at the Queensland rally dinner on February 8th.
