The Lake Mountain Tango is made up of nine timed runs up the 10km access road from the ticket office at the base of the mountain to the Ski Village of Lake Mountain itself.
Mark Clair, owner of a rare, standard class Porsche 911 Club Sport (one of 53 in the world), once again teamed up with Jenna Kelley to compete in the event.
A disappointingly low numbered field of 20 entries was posted on Australia Day and by the end of the event, only 15 cars finished.
Clair and Kelley set their fastest time for the weekend on their seventh run with a time of 5 minutes 7 seconds. Hot road conditions on the Saturday made it difficult to improve on their fastest time made last year of 5m5sec. Overall, they finished 12th
outright and 1st in Class.
This event is ideal for anyone wanting to “test drive” a tarmac rally before committing to a Targa Tasmania or Classic Adelaide type event. Close to Melbourne and run over the weekend it has a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
Although run repeatedly over the same course, the weather provides its own unique challenges with every run seemingly different.
Kelley will be teaming up with the 2007 Mt Buller Sprint winner, Ray Vandersee in the Skelta, for Targa Tasmania and Mt Buller and will step back into the Monaro with Troy Nicholson for the new Thredbo Sprint.
Clair and Kelley will combine once more for the 2008 Rally Tasmania / Heritage Rally. This event is based in the City of Burnie on the North West Coast of Tasmania on February 15-17. The competition covers spectacular mountain and valley areas within a 100km radius of the City, and returns to Burnie at the end of each day.
