M-Sport driver Teemu Suninen was besieged in the Bostalsee service park before the start of Rallye Germany about his remarkably poor performance at the previous WRC event, the Neste Rally Finland.
During all of his home event his only time on a stage in the top six was a sixth place on the short opening downtown stage.
The genial Finn gave no hint at his problem, only suggesting that he had some idea in his mind.
“It was a problem of my pace,” he said, stating the obvious.
“The car felt good but we were always 0.5 second a kilometre slower than we should have been.”
He was delighted with the work of his new co-driver - on only their second event together.
“Jarmo Lehtinen certainly has a lot to give to me!”
The only open possibility seems to be a problem with the engine which, by regulations, had to be sealed since Finland and is being used again in Germany.
