Darren Windus will drive a Super 2000 Toyota Corolla in the QUIT Forest Rally next month, after striking a deal with Neal Bates Motorsport.

Windus and Queensland co-driver, John Allen, will enter the car with the support of Ground Force Rentals. It is the car which Simon and Sue Evans used in the 2008 Australian Rally Championship.

It will be Windus’ second Super 2000 drive, after campaigning Ford’s S2000 Fiesta during the 2007 ARC.

“I really enjoyed driving the Ford S2000 car. You have to rev them hard and push them to the limit, which suits my driving style,” he said.

“I have seen the Corolla up close plenty of times and respect the great job Neal and his team have done with the development of these cars.”

Windus contested last year’s Forest Rally in a Subaru WRX, showing that he had plenty of speed. Part of the package will include running Michelin tyres.

“It is a bit of a concern that I have not competed for over eight months, but being able to put in some serious kilometres in testing, and being on the good tyres for the event will certainly give our chances a big boost.

“I can tell you we have not entered to just make up the numbers, we will be pushing hard,” he added.

The Quit Forest Rally is round 3 of the Australian Rally Championship and will be held from April 3-5.
