Despite persistent rumours about a possible involvement in the Australian Rally Championship next year, there has been no official comment from Suzuki in Australia.

However, if Suzuki’s current wave of advertising, which prominently features their new SX4 World Rally Car, is any indication, there seems to be a real opportunity for Suzuki to be part of the ARC.

There have been rumours that Suzuki will run a one-make series in next year’s ARC, with the possibility of running a Super 2000 car in 2009.

With the ARC contested only by Toyota and Pirtek Ford, an additional manufacturer would make a huge difference to the level of competition in the national series. Team principal, Nobuhiro Tajima, is no stranger to rallying in Australia, having campaigned Suzuki Swifts in the Rally of Canberra and other major events, so an Australian program seems to make sense.

Meanwhile, Suzuki are busy with their SX4 in the Tour de Corse this weekend, embarking on a two-WRC test program to iron out any bugs before they embark on a full WRC season in 2008.

Suzuki’s presence will be a real shot in the arm for the sport which currently needs more manufacturer participation to make it viable.
