In order to combat the unpredictable weather, Ott Tanak will have a new safety note driver for the upcoming Ypres Rally. Because the tarmac event will be held in late autumn, conditions are expected to be tricky, with wet roads and mud brought onto the stages. To help his chances, Tanak has enlisted the help of former Toyota, Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Hyundai WRC driver, Freddy Loix. Loix has won the event an incredible 11 times. "This year in Ypres, I will be with Hyundai to be the opener for Ott Tänak," the Belgian said. "I think I can help him identify some pitfalls. And him, I'm not going to have to coach him (laughs). Ott Tänak has a fixed co-pilot as an opener, but he often calls on different pilots with specific knowledge of the terrain." Thierry Neuville will also have some local help, with another former WRC star, Bruno Thiry, acting as his 'gravel note' driver.
