Targa Tasmania’s commitment to Hobart continues to expand with the announcement that the state capital will now host Targafest on Friday, May 1, the penultimate eve of the six-day classic tarmac rally.

Targafest, a motorshow of classic and modern cars where all the event’s entries come together on display in the one place, has not been held in Hobart before. Launceston has hosted the event in the past, attracting an average attendance of 10,000 people.

The announcement of the Hobart Targafest is the latest in changes for the 2015 Targa Tasmania impacting on the south of the state. The traditional southern loop, taking in the Huon Valley, has been reinstated for the first time since 2007, and the traditional finish has been moved to the Saturday afternoon at Macquarie 2 terminal.

Targafest will also be held at Macquarie 2 terminal, from 6pm to 10pm on May 1.

The indoor venue is perfect for competitors and fans. As well as the cars being on display and the competitors being involved, the evening will feature a Beerfest, while also being full of kids’ activities and rides and fun for the whole family.

It will also play host to a live Targa TV show to be broadcast on Southern Cross that evening.

Targa Director, Mark Perry, says giving people access to the fabulous cars in a family-friendly environment is important to the event.

“Targafest has been an amazing success for Launceston and grew into an event within an event,” Perry said.

“It provided the city with a great family event and the city traders with some fantastic economic returns.  Due in part to some changes in our arrangements with Launceston, we are now looking forward to bringing this exciting event to Hobart for the first time.

“The Mac 2 venue gives us a fantastic location right on the Hobart waterfront, where we will have a great event for Hobart families to enjoy, rain, hail or shine.”

Hobart Lord Mayor, Sue Hickey, is very supportive of Targafest is coming to the Capital City

“An event such as Targafest is not just for motor enthusiasts,” Hickey said. “Targa Tasmania and their very experienced team are breaking new ground by holding this event here in Hobart.

“I encourage you to bring your family and friends to this exciting and fun event.

“Come and enjoy what Tasmania does best; supporting new events which are inclusive, vibrant, entertaining and promote our wonderful local produce.”

Targa Tasmania will take place from Monday, April 27 to Saturday, May 2 in 2015, with a field of over 200 cars set to enjoy the Tasmanian roads, considered to be the finest tarmac rally roads in the world.
