Reigning Australian Rally Champion and Subaru Ambassador, Molly Taylor, is back behind the wheel this weekend when the Subaru do Motorsport team tackle the Mountain Stages Rally in Tasmania.
With a lengthy break in the CAMS Australian Rally Championship, Taylor and co-driver, Bill Hayes, will drive their Production Rally Car (PRC) class All-Wheel Drive WRX STI in order to get valuable seat time during the ‘off season’.
Taylor and Hayes took their debut win for Subaru do Motorsport in Tasmania last year, and are looking for a similar result in what is round three of the Tasmanian Rally Championship.
Molly said: “It will be another new challenge.
“Tasmania is full of fantastic roads, so I’m sure we won’t be disappointed. The competition is also really strong in Tassie, so we are going to have to push hard again, that’s for sure.”
The rally is the home event for Les Walkden Rallying (LWR), the team that builds and maintains the Subaru do Motorsport WRX STI, giving Taylor and Hayes extra motivation.
The pair are currently sitting in second place in the CAMS Australian Rally Championship - just three points behind leader, Harry Bates with two rounds still remaining.
Molly also said: “For me, getting seat time is so important, especially given the break in the calendar.
“Being able to stay fresh, as well as try some new set ups with the car, are our main objectives for the event.”
“Also, with LWR being the major sponsor of the event, it’s great for us to get out there and be a part of it. We are always learning and trying new things every time we are out in the car, so we will certainly make the most of the opportunity to get a few extra kilometres in.”
After reconnaissance on Friday, July 7, the Mountain Stages Rally will see competitors tackle eight special stages with a total competitive distance of 108.74km.
The rally is based at Mathinna, south west of Launceston, in the state’s north east.
