The Team Racetune Services Motorsport Ford Mk 1 Escort of local rally pilot Reg Marratt is set to challenge for honours in the Classic Competition Section of the 2007 Aeromil Pacific Classic Adelaide Rally.

The 11th running of the Classic Adelaide Rally, one of the world’s great rallies, commences on Wednesday, November 21 with a short blast around a section of the Clipsal 500 track to seed the running order for the remainder of the event.  The crews then head out on Thursday for the event proper, taking in four days of some of the world’s best tarmac roads through areas which include the Adelaide Hills and the famous wine producing regions of the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale.

After more than 1000 kilometres, including over 250 kilometres of competition special stages, the 2006 event saw the Team Racetune Services Escort finish 2nd in Classic Competition, 1 minute 23.2 seconds behind the million dollar Ford GT40 of Rob Sherrard and Peter Roberts.

“Hopefully we can go one better this year,” enthused team owner and driver, Reg Marratt.  “We’ve taken more than 20 kilos out of the car since last year and Rolly has managed to find a bit more power from the engine.”

Rolly Waters runs Racetune Services in WA and is well known in the West for extracting maximum performance from Ford Escorts.  Rolly will again be present to oversee service and maintenance by the service crew throughout the event.

Marratt’s regular Classic Adelaide co-driver, Matthew Woods, returns to the left hand seat and with pace noting reconnaissance completed, is also looking forward to the stages.

“There are a couple of new stages for ’07,” explained Matthew.  “It’s sad to see Coromandel gone, though, as that was a real favourite and it suited our car.”

“Carrickalinga looks to be fast and flowing but Mount Compass will be more tight and challenging – which is what we like!”

The Team Racetune Escort # 461 will be displaying the CanTeen logo and the service crew will be carrying merchandise in order to raise funds for CanTeen in support of Young People Living with Cancer. The team will also be at the Gouger Street Party from 7PM on Friday November 23rd.  Look out for their distinctive blue and black Team Racetune shirts.
