Teenage sensation Andreas Mikkelsen limbered up for Rally Ireland with a start-to-finish win in Fastnet Rally in Ireland last weekend.

The 18-year-old Norwegian dominated the rally in his Ford Focus World Rally Car to win by just under a minute.

Irish Tarmac champion, Eugene Donnelly, finished in second place. He, too, was preparing for Rally Ireland but, after winning a fourth Tarmac title in a Subaru, he has been forced to switch to a Skoda Fabia and the event was his first opportunity to try the little Czech car.

Although he was unable to match the pace of Mikkelsen - who he has beaten a number of times this season in the Subaru - Donnelly declared himself happy with his new car.

"The car is good, I like it," he said. "But it is under-powered compared to the Subaru - but then it's not the price of a Subaru either!

Tim McNulty finished in third place, 20 seconds down on Donnelly, driving a Subaru.
