Northland’s Kingsley Thompson is keen to impress his hometown supporters at this weekends NAC International Rally of Whangarei.
Heading into round 3 of the New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC) the Team Dilusi driver is counting on his local knowledge and a growing level of confidence in the team's new Mitsubishi Evo X to post a good result and score some much needed Championship points.
Having suffered some minor teething issues with the car in the first two rounds, Thompson and co-driver Richard Ellis believe they’re now on track to start pushing harder, climbing back into the championship standings.
“The roads up here are some of the most exciting in the country,†says Thompson. “They’re very fast and flowing and should make for some great action over the weekend.â€
Only recently reserved for the elite drivers of the World Rally Championship the team is relishing the opportunity to show their supporters how they’ll fare against the country’s top rallying talent.
And as part of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship, the NAC International Rally of Whangarei will also see a host of oversees competitors amongst the field.
Covering over 280km of special stages, the event gets underway with a ceremonial start at the Cameron Street Mall from 5:30pm on Friday and finishes at 3pm on Sunday at the Quayside Town Basin. For more information check out www.rallywhangarei.co.nz
