The Irishman, who was a resident in the Sunshine State, passed away tragically after a short illness.

Bustard finished second in last year’s Production Cup in the Australian Rally Championship alongside co-driver Larisa Biggar.

He was pipped for the title by Taylor Gill at the final round in Coffs Harbour, although Biggar, took out the co-driver’s title.

Their successful season also saw the pair take out the 2022 Queensland Rally Championship in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.

Bustard had only been competing in Australia since 2020, but had quickly made a name for himself as a front-running competitor.

“It is with a heavy heart Ronald passed away at 8.30pm Australian time,” his sister posted on Facebook last night.

“He was not only my brother but also my friend and confidant and my side kick in our younger years. I will forever remember him and forever miss him.”

Motorsport Australia will pay tribute to Bustard at the opening round of the ARC season in Launceston.

“We’re truly saddened to hear of Ronnie’s sudden passing and the thoughts and sympathies of everyone at Motorsport Australia are with Ronnie’s family, friends and the entire rally community at this tragic time,” Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca said.

“We will make sure his passing is acknowledged at the opening round of the Motorsport Australia Rally Championship in a few weeks time.”

Ronnie is survived by his wife Shelley, and their children Ryan, Jake and Bella.

RallySport Magazine sends its deepest condolences to the Bustard family and Ronnie’s friends.

May he rest in peace.
