Promoters of the event, Car Club RMIT, will conduct the 52nd consecutive “George Derrick Memorial Rally”in the forests close to town. Over 80 crews will compete in the event, which is also Rnd 3 of the Victorian Clubs Rally Series, on over 100 kms of closed road special stages.
CCRMIT would like to welcome our event support sponsors and local businesses, Redbank Winery, Wimmera Hills Winery and national company Australian Battery House through their Batronic brand and acknowledge the invaluable support of the Pyrenees Shire Council.
The competition will be fierce with high quality fields entered in both sections of the event.
Clerk of Course, Andrew Roseman, when asked why CCRMIT had returned to Avoca to conduct the event said, “We received tremendously positive feedback from the local community after the event in 2009 and we are happy to be returning to the town of Avoca and the Pyrenees region.
"The roads in the area are very well suited to rallying and offer good variety and challenges for crews. We hope that bringing over 250 volunteer officials and competitors, associated with the rally, to the region will provide a benefit to local businesses and a fantastic weekend away for crews. Of course the event would not happen without the permission and support of D.S.E., Victoria Police, VicRoads and the Confederation of Australian Motorsport.”
There will be ample opportunity for local residents to see the cars competing, with 2 spectator points close to Avoca. The spectator guide will be available prior to the start of the event from the Avoca Visitor Information Centre and Rally HQ at the Avoca RSL hall.
The rally cars will also be on display in the main street of Avoca from around 11.30am prior to the start of the event at 12.15 pm. From Avoca the cars will head out into the forest for the first group of special stages returning to Avoca from 4.30 pm. for the evening dinner break and service.
The final stages will be conducted close to Avoca after dark with the first cars returning to Avoca for the finish and event presentation at around 9.30pm. More details on the event can be found at www.ccrmit.com.
