“Last year we came third outright and almost won some of the stages with what I believe was driver error stopping me. Last year I had an old friend step in for the event as co-driver as John was not available as he was awaiting the birth of his daughter, so with John back in this year we believe that there is nothing stopping us from achieving first outright," Shepheard says.
"I must be honest, I have never been keen on this event as it is a rally that has many fifth gear stages with no room for error, with crashes in past years causing serious injury to competitors.
"So one of the things that I have made a point of is turning that negative thought into a positive and I believe I have achieved this, and I am looking forward to stage one where John and I will show what we can do with the Evo X in fifth gear.
"The car has had a lot of time spent on it since Rally Queensland and we believe it has the goods. We have made some improvements to it in areas that we believe will work well on the roads in South Australia.
"At Queensland we were happy to have finished the rally with fourth outright, but I was disappointed with our times being just off the leading three, Ryan Smart, Justin Dowel and Mark Pedder. I hope to turn that around this weekend,” said Steve.
