The world’s largest car manufacturer announced they would be leaving the sport on November 2, 2016, and some thought it would be to its detriment, but these last five years have given rally fans some of the best highlights regardless of Volkswagen’s entry.
But some, and quite rightly, also believe that its exit left the WRC right at the juncture where it could have become a truly diverse championship again.
Each opinion is valid, but five years on from their last entry in the WRC, at Rally Australia, we thought it would be good to reflect.
