Thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies with 'rally on the brain' are invited to sign up as volunteers for the Rally of Canberra from June 1 to 3, in and around the forests of the ACT.
Event organisers require 700 volunteers to help with the 2007 event in a range of roles, including headquarter officials, spectator marshals, road closure marshals and results officials.
Australian Capital Tourism acting General Manager, Ian Hill, says volunteers play an integral role in the Rally of Canberra and this year is no exception.
“I encourage people to sign up and be a part of this exciting event. As a round of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship and Australian Rally Championship, the support of volunteers is vital to ensure that it is a success,” he said.
Rally Manager, Jenny Boyd, says the role is an exciting way to see the event and one of the best ways to get close to the action.
“It's the best way to get behind the scenes and up close and personal to the drivers and cars. We want as many people as possible to sign up and be a part of this exciting event and to help increase Canberra's reputation as a top rally destination,” she said.
Volunteers will receive a spectator pass, Rally of Canberra t-shirt and cap and an invitation to the post-event volunteer function on Sunday, June 3.
People who crave the thrill and excitement of motorsport or want to get close to the action can register by completing a volunteer application form and disclaimer and sending it back to the rally office.
