Following the recent confirmation that their rally team manager, Sven Smeeets, is to work under the title of Sporting Director, VW has announced that this does not imply that Smeets has inherited the position of Jost Capito, as the title suggests.
They have stated: “Sven is not Jost’s successor. The expansion of Volkswagen Motorsport's activities through new projects such as GRC and TCR required organisational adjustments.
“The structure has been streamlined with Sven Smeets as Sporting Director, FX Demaison (Technical Director) and Donatus Wichelhaus (Director of Engine Development) taking on the overall responsibility for all of Volkswagen Motorsport's projects, in addition to their WRC project responsibilities.”
