In just their first year in the World Rally Championship with the Polo R World Rally Car, Volkswagen have set the championship on fire with multiple victories.

Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia claimed the 2013 World title - their first - at the Rallye de France. It was their seventh win of the season, with team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila also tasting victory once.

“To have won the World Championship title in France is an absolute dream come true,” Ogier said.

“As a little boy, I used to marvel at the cars and top drivers at the Rally Monte Carlo with my father in my home town of Gap – and now Julien and I are World Rally Champions. It is crazy.

“However, I am also well aware that rallying is a team sport. This success would never have been possible without our fantastic team at Volkswagen. Whether trucker, mechanic or race engineer, I have to thank everyone. One thing is for sure – we will celebrate in style now!”

It has been a remarkable season for VW. While the champion for the past nine years, Sebastien Loeb, has not contested the full season, VW have proven to be the class act of 2013.

Ogier drove many of last year’s events in a Super 2000 car, and that experience quickly saw him take charge of the outright category this year.

Volkswagen have also come up with a great interactive initiative for motor enthusiasts to put themselves in the driving seat by taking part in an action packed game. You can be experiencing the drifts, the turns, and all the fast-paced action of pro rally drivers in a Polo R WRC rally car that will fuel your excitement for the World Rally Championship. If that's not enough, the video below for Rally the World should get you going...

With two rounds of the championship still to run, VW have clearly set a new benchmark in the WRC. It’s now up to their rivals to bridge the gap.
