The third round of this year’s FIA regional Middle East Rally Championship was the Rally of Lebanon won by Nasser Al Attiyah and co-driver Mathieu Baumel (above). This was a personal achievement for Al Attiyah, who has been competing on this asphalt event over 17 years but he had never yet won the event. His main rival was Roger Feghali who led, but had to retire after a puncture. Al Attiyah finished over seven minutes in front of Rodrigue Rahi’s Mitsubishi Lancer IX. = = = = Luca Rossetti (Citroen C3 R5) won the Rally del Friui Venezia Giulia Rally, sixth round of the Italian championship. Second through fourth were Fabia R5s of Andrea Crugnola, Giandomenico Basso and Antonio Rusche. Alessandro Perico retired with brake trouble, while Simone Campedelli’s Fiesta R5 Mk 2 was delayed with two punctures. = = = = Thirty six year old Estonian driver Fiesta WRC driver, Georg Gross, won the South Estonia Rally after a rally-long battle with the Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 of 17-year old Oliver Solberg, the final winning margin being 3.9 seconds. Solberg, however, won the Latvia rally championship as well as the FIA regional Baltic cup. An unhappy rally for Finnish driver Mikko Hirvonen, who had a broken driveshaft on his Fiesta R5. = = = = The very fast Finnish national championship Oili Jalomen Ralli, run north of Turku was eventually won by Juha Salo’s Skoda Fabia R5 after Emil Lindholm (pictured above) had led before rolling his Volkswagen. Salo now leads the series by four points from Teemu Asunmaa with one event to go, = = = = Lionel Baud won the French gravel championship Rallye Terre de Lozere, held south of Clermont-Ferrand for the fourth time, increasing his championship lead. Second was another Citroen DS3 WRC driver Thibault Durbec. Citroen cars took the top four places, with Thomas Baudoin’s C3 R5 in front of Cyrille Ferraud’s C4 WRC.
