Queensland’s Kevin Weeks and Bec Crunkhorn have taken the honours at the 2008 Lake Mountain Sprint.

They finished with a total time of 40m 48.92s run over 9 Stages up the 10km road. Dry conditions all weekend saw Weeks charge to the lead in his 1975 Porsche 911 RS. His Special Stage 6 time was also enough to take out the official ‘lap record’ at 4m27.05.

Daniel Schulz and Rick Schulz had a very strong final day, moving up to second position in their 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 RS, triumphing over Doug Lehmann and Andrew Booker by 7 seconds.

Scott Wallace and Paul Dowie, racing a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.5, continued their impressive weekend’s performance to finish in fourth place with a total time of 43m 49.04s.

The brother combination of Tim and Jason Hendy, competing in their 2005 Daytona Coupe, finished in fifth place, in the process beating Lake Mountain debutants Jack Elsegood and Jon Hart (1971 Ford Capri Perana).

Whilst conditions were dry and sunny all weekend, the drivers and navigators were kept on their toes due to soaring ambient temperatures. The road temperature hit a sizzling 54 degrees Celsius by mid-morning.

Event director Peter Washington thanked Clerk of Course Wayne Kenny and his team, the volunteer officials, Mitsubishi, Racesolutions Motorsport, Chaplaincy Victoria, CFA and the Lake Mountain Management for their assistance in running the event.
