The Otago Rally organisers and competitors got a cold surprise this morning, with heavy snow greeting crews as they prepared for the weekend's event. Snow on Wednesday meant for an already snow covered road, but heavy snowfall was persistent throughout Thursday morning's shakedown test. Star entrant, Mads Ostberg, ran a number of times, giving VIPs an experience of a lifetime. The unusual falling snow was a sight to behold, with amazing photos and videos to be captured. Though many were skeptical about the prospect of the snow continuing, it persisted for well over an hour, making some dread their clothing choices. Few competitors tackled the short Whare Flat test as the conditions will not be representative of the rally this weekend. Saturday and Sunday's forecast for the rally is fine, with temperatures expected to rise into the low teens. The Otago Rally is the first round of the New Zealand Rally Championship, and also includes the famous International Otago Classic Rally.
