It is reported that yesterday's (May 24) FIA World Rally Championship Commission made important proposals for the 2017 season, which will now be passed to the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council for consideration and ratification if approved.

The FIA may restrict which drivers can drive the 2017 specification World Rally Cars next year.Main proposals are:

(a) that the teams will each register three cars before WRC events, and the top placed two cars will then score points for the championship.

(b) there will no longer be a requirement that one particular driver shall be nominated as a team’s regular WRC championship driver and,

(c) it is proposed that only drivers approved by the FIA will be permitted to compete in 2017 specification World Rally Cars.

There is no news yet about proposals regarding other issues expected to be discussed concerning a possible privateer’s series for World Rally Car drivers, daily running orders on WRC events, and reduced championship points if events are unexpectedly shortened.
