Western Australia is poised to begin the 2018 Zestino Tyre Rally Sprints in mid March, using purpose built dirt roads over five rounds. “We’ve worked hard to make the sprints as easy as possible. Competitors don’t need a rally car, roll cage or race suits and can compete with basic competition licenses," series director, Karl Drummond, said. "Alongside cars, buggies and side-by-side vehicles may also enter, providing they comply with the safety requirements.
“The Zestino Tyre Rally Sprints are a trimmed down version of a full rally, making them perfect for time (and cash) limited competitors. Effectively, the series is a stepping stone between autocross and full rallying.”
Whether someone is new to the sport, had their car parked up for a while or wanting to test for the next rally, there is a category for everyone. There are classes for 4WD, 2WD, Juniors, Rookies and SxS/Buggies. Zestino RallySprint Series “Last year we had a trio of juniors tussling it out for the class win,” Drummond added. "It was the same with all the classes really. There were different class and outright winners at each round, showing how competitive the series is.
"In the end the outright win was taken by an autocross spec Ford Laser. It proved that you don’t need a full rally car or a 4WD turbo weapon to do well.”
The 2018 Zestino Tyre Rally Sprints have both day and night rounds, giving competitors the full experience of special stage rallying. Road configurations are also changed from round to round to keep competition exciting and close. 2018 calendar: Round 1 – 18th March (Daylight) Round 2 – 12th May (Daylight) Round 3 – 28th July (Night) Round 4 – 9th September (Daylight) Round 5 – 24th November (Night) Event info, series regulations and online entries are available at: www.rallyaction.com.au/sprint
