Planning for the 2011 Alpine Rally is already well under way and will continue the wonderful tradition of Australia’s longest running motorsport event, which is set to start on Friday, November 25 next year. Once again the Alpine will be based in the delightful seaside community of Lakes Entrance in East Gippsland.
There will be about 350km of competitive stages, many of which are new for the 2011 event . Some of the changes already in place include dropping the bitumen stage from Orbost to Buchan and finishing earlier on the Saturday night than in previous events.
Stories abound of a number of new cars being built for the event, there is also a strong rumour that a UK competitor may bring his Escort out to play, as well as suggestions of New Zealanders considering crossing the Tasman to compete.
The directing team will once again be overseen by rallying legend Stuart Lister with most of the team remaining the same as in 2009 and promising to make the ‘Alpine Magic’ come alive again.
With the support of many communities in East Gippsland the Alpine Rally is a great showcase for a region keen to show what a fantastic destination it is. Accommodation is being handled by the East Gippsland Visitor Centre and can be organised by calling 1800 637 060 or visiting www.discovereastgippsland.com.au
