British motorsport preparation specialist, JRM, has launched the world’s newest Subaru WRX STI production rally car that is eligible in WRC 2, ERC 2 and other regional championships.

The international-specification machine has been built to the FIA’s new-for-2015 NR4 technical regulations (replacing the former N4 and R4 classes) and is based on Subaru’s MY15 WRX model type.

JRM is an official Base Team of Subaru Tecnica International (STI) and its 2015 challenger has been built in conjunction with engineers at Subaru’s motorsport division in Japan.

The latest-specification Subaru WRX STI has been heralded as the Japanese manufacturer’s best handling production-spec rally car to date, due to its improved body and suspension stiffness. This means the car offers improved traction and cornering performance when compared against older models.

The build programme has been co-ordinated by experienced rally engineer, Eddie Corr, and the car has now started a rigorous testing programme in the hands of Terry Kaby, a driver that has been developing manufacturer rally cars for more than 25 years.

Steve Smith, JRM senior sales manager:

“This is the newest production rally car anywhere in the world and has been built specifically to meet the FIA’s new NR4 regulations that have been introduced to create more of a level playing field in the production category.

“There’s been a dearth of new cars coming into production rallying during the last few years so we’re aiming to shake the category up by introducing a car that is totally new and fresh.

“As a 2015 model, this NR4 WRX STI brings the very latest vehicle technology – that Subaru has developed for its road-going variant – to rallying’s production category. We’re expecting that to represent a significant step in performance that will benefit crews who are serious about winning the production class at all levels of competition.”

JRM’s latest Subaru rally car is now the subject of an extensive test and development programme to prepare it for a competitive debut that will come in an upcoming round of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC).
