Molly Taylor's star continues to rise with the announcement that she has been selected as one of two recipients of the Australian Motorsport Foundation's International Rising Star Award for 2009.

Following a successful first year of the AMSF International Rising Star Program, the Australian Motor Sport Foundation (AMSF) has selected the two drivers who will lead Australia's assault on the world motor sport stage in 2009.

Daniel Erickson, 21, and Molly Taylor, 20, will represent the AMSF in 2009 as they embark on their international careers as part of the AMSF International Rising Star Program.

Erickson, who will compete in the 2009 British Formula Ford Championship, is looking forward to representing the program and competing in the UK.

“It has been a goal of mine to be selected and represent the AMSF on the international stage and I am very grateful for the opportunity,” Erickson said.

“I am looking forward to competing overseas and taking a step closer towards my ultimate goal of Formula 1.”

Backed by Kevin Mills Racing, Erickson will start competing in the first round of the 2009 British Formula Ford Championship to be held on 11–13 April at Oulton Park.

Taylor, the 2007 and 2008 Australian Rally Championship ‘Formula 1600’ Champion, will be supported as the first female driver in the International Rising Star Program.

“This is a great opportunity for me to compete in another country and gain valuable experience on the international stage,” said Taylor.

“I am very thankful for the AMSF in providing me with this opportunity andmaking it all possible.”

Taylor was due to begin her pursuit for international success in Wales on 28–29 March, competing in the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup as part of the British Rally Championship. However, following the announcement on 3 February that Suzuki has withdrawn its support of the British Rally Championship, Taylor is currently negotiating to secure another drive.

The AMSF will continue to work with Molly in securing a drive for the 2009 season.

Joining Erickson and Taylor in their international quests, CAMS Rising Star Scott Pye was given the opportunity to compete in the Toyota Racing Series (TRS) including the International Trophy, held in New Zealand in January. Racing for Trevor Sheumack’s European Technique Team, Pye finished second in the International Trophy and currently sits in second place in the TRS.

“It was pleasing to finish second in the International Series. In coming to New Zealand I was looking at a top five finish,” said Pye.

Scott will also be part of the CAMS Rising Star Program in 2009, driving in the Australian Formula Ford Championship.

As AMSF International Rising Stars, Erickson and Taylor will not only be supported financially but will also have access to a wide range of support services such as driver coaching, psychologists, physiologists and mentors in their quest to succeed on the international stage.
