Citroen Racing chiefs Yves Matton and Marek Nawarecki gave updates on their troubled rally team during Rallye Deutschland.
Matton spoke about tackling the technical problems with the C3 WRC.
“We have done a lot of things in the last few weeks. We have started to change our organisation with the new Technical Manager becoming full time beginning of September, but have already homologated some new joker parts after a lot of work we have done since Easter.
“No new parts will be released between now and the end of the year as we have to focus on 2018 rather than take some risk in 2017. We have to do the (testing) mileage, we didn’t do that before.
“We took a process which is quite new for us at Citroen that we homologate and put some new parts on the car before testing so much. You have to go through all the different possibilities, setups, with all the parts we homologate and that will be the job which we will now continue in the following weeks.”
What feedback did Sebastien Loeb give you after his asphalt tests with the C3 WRC?
“He said we needed to have a car which was more easy to drive. The car is still a little bit too nervous maybe, or sometime difficult to have the feeling of the grip.
“On a rally the drivers go through stages they have not seen for several days. It is always quite difficult to really know what will happen on the following corner. That was the main point.”
Nawarecki spoke about other areas.
“With only three rallies left after Germany our policy and goal will be the same as we had from the beginning of this rally, to win events.
“We need to work to improve the level of confidence of our drivers in different conditions in this car, then we believe that we will achieve best results.
“We had some new solutions in Finland and we need to continue to work on it. We have already some interesting feedback from drivers.
“Also of course we need to work on the future, on the possibility on things we can prepare and develop, like shock absorbers and dampers for next season.”
