North Island rally competition is now on hold for at least seven days as a result of the raised COVID-19 restrictions in New Zealand.
The penultimate round of the ABC Pipefitters Northern Rallysprint Series had been scheduled for Sunday, August 23 at the Hoddle Road venue near Otorohanga. The public road gravel stage was used in multiple WRC Rally New Zealand events in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
With Auckland based competitors unable to travel due the Level 3 Lockdown status across the wider Auckland area, the event has been postponed.
The Hamilton Car Club and series officials are investigating the possibility of deferring the event by one week, to run on Sunday, August 30 if the road closure can be altered and the current lockdown restrictions are relaxed.
A further update is expected early this week.
