Toyota will have a much bigger presence in world rallying in 2021 as the manufacturer starts work on two new rally cars. Under its Toyota Gazoo Racing brand, the company will extend its range of cars to include a Yaris Rally2 and Yaris Rally3 next year. This will mean Toyota have cars in all three major categories in the World Rally Championship, as well as cars to contest national and international championship rallies. The Yaris Rally2 (former called R5) will be up against cars like the Skoda Fabia, Ford Fiesta, Citroen DS3 and Hyundai i20. In Rally3 the main opposition will come from Ford, with their new 1-litre Fiesta. “I think everybody knows about the ambition for an R5 car from Japan. Developing cars that really work for the privateer driver has long been part of the sport’s culture there," a team source told DirtFish. “And Rally3 makes sense for everybody. This category is a really interesting prospect.”
