The event to finalise the 2010 season kicks off on the afternoon of Friday 12th November and runs all day Saturday 13th.
Interstate teams are already on their way to Warragul, situated in West Gippsland just 105km from Melbourne city. As teams arrive within the next few days, they have important preparation on the agenda. They will be testing their cars, and making fine adjustments to suspension settings, differential settings, and choosing the tyres they believe will give them a competitive edge over their rivals.
Just as important as the cars is the ‘Pace Notes’. The driver and co-driver make these all-important notes on the roads two days before competition starts. ‘Pace Notes’ are descriptive notes made on the road gradient, surface, and intersections. They are read by the co-driver to the driver as they travel as fast as possible along the forest roads.
The competition starts just after 2:00pm on Friday 12th of November in the forests between Powelltown and Neerim then the cars make a service stop at Lardner Park, Warragul, before contesting the Super Special Stage around the Lardner complex.
This is your one stop entertainment point with Rally cars being serviced and repaired before the National Excel Shootout from 5:00pm. After the country’s fastest Hyundai Excels scream around the Lardner roads, the fastest of all rally cars, the contenders for the Australian Rally Championship, will hit the roads right in front of the expected massive crowd.
At the crack of dawn on Saturday morning the cars will have a short 20 minute service before heading north to the first competitive stage of the day, Tarago 1, just a couple of kilometres west of Neerim. It will be non-stop racing against the clock until just after 7:00pm.
The final placing for outright positions and class categories will be decided at the end of the day with a huge gathering of motor sport fans and entertainment seekers. The podium finish will be the culmination of all the Rally teams’ hard work throughout the year, and is set to be a fantastic party opener.
