Australian co-driver Rebecca Smart finished a very tough Rally Germany in 43rd place at the weekend. Co-driving for partner Timo van der Marel in a Ford Fiesta, the pair had their share of ups and downs and had to ‘Super Rally’ after clipping a concrete pylon on SS7, Waxweiler, on Friday and damaging the steering arm, lower cross member and axle.

Had they not incurred the Super Rally penalty, the pair would have won the R2 class.

In 2013 Van der Marel and Smart won all six rounds of the Fiesta series in the Belgian Rally Championship, and are contesting a varied program this year, including the WRC rounds in Germany and Spain in their Ford Fiesta R2.
