Brendan Reeves, last year’s winner of the National Capital Rally, will not be making the trip north to Australia’s capital to compete in this weekend’s event.

“We definitely looked at doing Nat Cap again this year,” Reeves told RallySport Magazine.

“There was a small possibility of running an AP4 car, but that opportunity fell short.

“Once this wasn't a possibility for the APRC, then I didn't see much point racing the Skodas in my PRC Subaru.”

Reeves is currently building a Datsun 1600 rally car, which he is putting many hours into.

“My 1600 is something that I've used in Autocross events in Victoria the last few years. I'm building it into a club car, not a classic, which gives me more freedom in the build.

“I really love driving this car as it's pure fun. The 1600 has such a rich rallying history in Australia, which is quite unique for it, compared to the rest of the world.

“The aim will be to use it for Autocross, and Victorian rallies.”

As for plans for the remainder of 2017, Reeves added: “Now that there is a big break until Rally Germany (where he is doing safety notes for Hayden Paddon), I'm working on a few things, but the main aim is to do an NZRC round and then Rally Australia in November.

“Finding sponsors is extremely hard with the state of the sport at the moment, so when I get to compete, like at Eureka Rally, the number one aim is to have fun and enjoy the adventure.”
