The 2011 Rally of Otago is likely to be held on the weekend of April 16 and 17 next year, although event organisers are still awaiting final confirmation.

The clarification of the rally date will depend on the announcement schedules for other events, including the V8 Supercar race to be held in Hamilton, on the North Island.

“At this stage the April 16-17 date looks the most likely,” Rally of Otago clerk of course, Norman Oakley, said.

“Once the date in finalised we can really start moving forward, and it allows competitors to start planning their 2011 season.”

The Otago Rally will be the first round of the New Zealand Rally Championship, and will also include the Dunlop International Otago Rally for classic cars. A third event, the Allcomers Rally, will run over the same stages.

“Planning for the 2011 event is already well under way,” Oakley added.

“We will continue to include the rally’s famous stages, such as Kuri Bush, Waipori Gorge and Whare Flat, however the addition of some new roads will keep the event fresh for competitors and spectators alike.”
