Atkinson tops RSM driver poll

Subaru World Rally Team driver, Chris Atkinson, has topped RallySport Magazine’s poll to find the best Australian rally driver.

The Queenslander polled 29.5% of the votes, just 4.1% ahead of current Australian Rally Championship leader, Simon Evans.

Despite Atkinson’s poor season in 2006, www.rallysportmag.com.au readers still think he’s our best rally driver.

In third place, gathering 14.2% of the votes, was “other”, which could include drivers such as tarmac ace Jim Richards or young gun Steve Glenney, or perhaps, readers who list themselves higher than any of those drivers included in the poll.

Multiple Australian Champion, Cody Crocker, was fourth, followed by Dean Herridge, Scott Pedder and Neal Bates.

The final results were:
1. Chris Atkinson - 29.5%
2. Simon Evans - 25.1%
3. ‘Other’ - 14.2%
4. Cody Crocker - 12.5%
5. Dean Herridge - 8.6%
6. Scott Pedder - 5.6%
7. Neal Bates - 4.5%
