New Zealand's famous 'Rovenger' rally car has been sold - to an Australian! The Hillman Avenger, fitted with a Rover 3.5 litre V8 engine, was built and developed by Dunedin's Mark Laughton in the early 2000s. The car has competed regularly in the Otago Rally, with Laughton being co-driven in 2019 by his daughter, Abbie. However, it was his last rally in the car, with Tasmanian Dave Thompson having now purchased the car. "I've always had an interest in the car, so when Mark offered it for sale, I couldn't resist it," Thompson told RallySport Magazine. "It's a really well sorted car, and Mark has done plenty of development on it, including putting in new MCA suspension before Otago."

The Rovenger is fitted with a Rover V8 engine that puts out serious grunt.

While Aussie rally fans will be eager to see the car in action, they'll be disappointed. Thompson plans on leaving the car in New Zealand and competing in Kiwi rallies, including this year's Otago Rally. "New Zealand events have such a good vibe about them, so I'm looking forward to doing more rallies over there in the future," Thompson added. The Rovenger was featured in a recent RallySport Magazine article, which you can read HERE. https://rallysportmag.com/feature-car-the-worlds-first-and-only-rovenger/
