Queenslands Greg Poole and Simon Campbell have got off to the worst possible start in New Zealand's Silver Fern Rally.
The pair rolled their rented Ford Escort RS2000 on the first day of the rally, doing considerable damage to the car.
A long-time competitor in Escorts and Mazdas, Poole has leased the car driven by RallySport Magazine editor, Peter Whitten, in this year’s Otago Classic Rally.
Upgraded with a five-speed gearbox, a 5-link rear end and more power since the Otago event, the Escort was expected to perform well, but the Queensland duo’s escapades on Day 1 soon put paid to that.
However, they have restarted the event in Leg 2, but in another Escort.
