With a new AP4 specification Toyota Yaris currently being built in his team’s Canberra workshop, Harry Bates has hinted that another assault on the Australian Rally Championship is on his radar.

Harry Bates finished third in this year's Australian Rally Championship.Bates was left devastated after a final day puncture at Rally Australia saw his chances of an ARC title deflated, but the 21-year old has told Speedcafe.com that he’s more likely to be rallying in Australia than overseas in 2017.

“At the moment I’ve got more concrete plans here than I have there,” Bates said.

“At this point the Junior World Rally Championship contract is still out to tender so we are still not sure yet who is going to be the provider for that. It is usually a one-make series.

“I guess once we find that out we can then find a budget and try to confirm some stuff.”

The son of four-time champion, Neal Bates, admitted that competing in Europe is his ultimate goal, but knows that another year in the national championship will be vital to his development as a driver.

His stellar 2016 season has already shown that he has the ability and speed to go a long way in the sport.
