The Ballarat Light Car Club has officially announced the cancellation of this year's Begonia Rally, due to a shortage of qualified officials to run the event.
Announcing the cancellation, Club President David Haddon said that it was with great regret that the Club’s Committee had made the decision to cancel the event. The Begonia Rally was a key component of the rally calendar for 2006, being a round of the Victorian Rally Championship.
Mr Haddon said that the cancellation followed the recent announcement that the Begonia Rally organising team (headed by Ian Crook and Stuart Lister) had withdrawn their services from the event. This withdrawal had brought about an Extraordinary Meeting of the Club Committee which had decided, with great reluctance, that it was in the best interests of the club, potential competitors and officials to cancel the event, giving all parties the greatest possible notice.
The Ballarat Light Car Club expects to apply to run the Begonia Rally again in 2007.
